First up tonight is Slumber. I know that she plays the lead in the show Nikita (which I haven’t seen), but finally Maggie Q takes a lead role! I have thought she was a very good actress since Balls of Fury and thought she was wasted in Die Hard 22 or whatever.
This one had high production values, spearheaded by excellent cinematography. One thing that I really like in horror films is when the characters are smart and make the sensible calls, which this movie has, for the most part.
You know… I’ve had pretty good luck this year. Lots of good horror flicks. This is not a modern classic, but it is a good watch. A few continuity errors here and there, this is the best sleep paralysis movie I’ve seen, which, like medical horror, is becoming a sub genre of its own.
Since discovering the Universal monsters, particularly The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Phantom of the Opera, I have been hooked on horror films. Now, I try to watch all of them I can find. There are so many out there, and some of them really embrace the art of the medium. Further, there are a lot of films that have great elements or have historical significance that get brushed under the rug for various reasons. What is worse is when a great film has an unpopular name attached to it.
I try to give every movie a fair chance--maybe even an unfair chance, such as when I hate a director's previous works but continue watching their every effort. A thing somewhat related is when I give a movie that I disliked a second chance and find a lot that I had missed.
My mind can be changed, so I encourage discussion.
