Hellraiser: Judgment (2018)

Director: Gary J. Tunnicliffe

Let me start by saying this… this is the best Hellraiser since Hellraiser 2.

It is not a great movie, but it is a good movie. It has visuals nearly on par with the most underrated movie of all time, The Cell. This is the first time they have ever downplayed the Cenobites. They are less outlandish and more function-based, like in the first two movies. That is a great quality in a sequel. Bigger is better is not the way to go with sequels. Downplay it! Like Better Call Saul.

Oh, but for criticism, let me say this… Directors! Characters leaving doors open is blasphemy!

So many great things about this, but two horrendous things that I literally could have fixed!!!
1.) Pinhead’s voice. I can personally impersonate Doug Bradley’s (the original) Pinhead to a fault, which I have done on my track for ‘Thriller,’ the Vincent Price part.
2.) The use of the Cenobites… a major aspect that made the first two great was that Pinhead was a new, unimportant Cenobite. Just because he is the most popular character doesn’t mean that he should be made a deity.

Also! You know how R. Lee Ermey was a consultant for Full Metal Jacket? Have me be a horror consultant for horror flicks! I am like the Kevin Smith of horror films, but who thankfully doesn’t wear hockey jerseys!

I have so much to say on this one because I love the #Hellraiser franchise. I think what Hellraiser needs is a movie WITHOUT Pinhead! Or at most, him having a cameo! The Cenobites are not boring, and there were several from the first two films to explore! OR, better yet than any of this, make a Clive Barker’s Tortured Souls movie! Pictured is Venal Anatomica from Tortured Souls.
