Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004)
Director: Brett Sullivan
I loved the first one, so this was a much anticipated movie! Here goes:
This one had a lot going for it. I had no interest in it until I saw that the cast from the original carried over (as well as it does in another sequel, which came out the same year as 2, called The Beginning, which I will address in the near future).
Overall, it wasn’t a very good movie, but it had a lot of features that I love. The original cast was the same, which was the only reason I gave it a shot, but here are some seminal points:
much like Halloween 2, this was a direct sequel; if you did not see the original this did not stand alone.
Further, it was not a carbon copy of the original. It took on a new plot, with the original’s continuity in tact.
Finally, this one took a much appreciated twist. I will avoid spoilers, only saying that the twist was in good taste. However, the original was an Indie production, so the sequel was a runoff from that. That never bodes well, and even though this sequel had a lot of great characteristics, it was not produced with a strong spine. I have no regrets watching it and will definitely take on the other sequel.
